Uzbekistan establishes diplomatic relations with another island nation
Uzbekistan and Palau have established diplomatic relations. Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov announced on his Telegram channel.
According to Saidov, he held a meeting in New York with Gustav Aitaro, Minister of State of Palau.
“Together we marked a historic moment with the signing of a Joint communique establishing diplomatic relations between our nations. This milestone not only reflects our mutual goodwill but also opens the door to a promising future of cooperation and partnership,” Saidov wrote.
The minister added that every opportunity will be used to unlock new prospects and build strong, long-lasting ties between Uzbekistan and Palau.
What kind of country is Palau?
Palau is a country located in the western Pacific Ocean, in the Micronesia subregion. It consists of more than 250 islands and islets. The capital is Ngerulmud, located on Babeldaob Island, while the largest city is Koror.
The country has a total land area of 459 km² and a population of nearly 20,000. Palau exercises full sovereign rights over its territorial waters and exclusive economic zone extending up to 200 nautical miles.
Palau is a presidential republic, meaning the president serves as both head of state and head of government. Its parliament is bicameral, consisting of a Senate and a House of Delegates.
