A national hazardous waste disposal complex to be built in Navoi
Navoi regional governor Normat Tursunov met with Silver Delone, Vice President of Vision International Investment and Chief Executive Officer for Central Asia andthe Caucasus.
The meeting focused on the implementation of the promising investment project “Processing Hazardous Industrial Waste in Uzbekistan,” which is being carried out in cooperation with Saudi Arabia’s Vision International Investment and France’s SUEZ International.
An agreement on the implementation of the project was signed on June 11, 2025, on the sidelines of the Tashkent International Investment Forum between Vision International Investment and SUEZ International.
According to Deputy Governor of Navoi Region Elbek Gafforov, the project envisages cooperation in the development and implementation of a forward - looking project in the field of hazardous industrial waste management. “As part of the project, Uzbekistan’s first national hazardous waste processing complex will be built,” Gafforov said. “Primarily, this will help reduce the negative impact on the environment. At the same time, advanced technologies will be introduced through foreign direct investment, and new jobs will be created. Most importantly, the project will generate resources for the production of alternative fuel and electricity for the country’s cement plants.
”Preliminary estimates indicate that the total cost of the project is USD 118 million. During the first phase, 250,000 tons of hazardous waste are planned to be disposed of per year. Navoi Region was selected for the project due to its developed industrial sector and the large volume of industrial waste generated in the area. Accordingly, the complex is planned to be located near industrial zones, railway lines, and engineering infrastructure, on land without geological constraints. The project will require at least 50 hectares of land, with up to 100 hectares allocated to allow for future expansion.
During the meeting, these and other organizational and technical aspects of the project were discussed in detail.
