The first inter-parliamentary forum “Uzbekistan – Canada” will be held in Uzbekistan
On January 26, First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of Uzbekistan Sodik Safoyev held a video conference meeting with Ziyad Abultaif, Chairman of the Canada–Uzbekistan Friendship Group in the House of Commons of Canada.
During the talks, the two sides noted their strong mutual interest in consistently developing and strengthening interparliamentary cooperation between Uzbekistan and Canada.
The participants highly praised the visit of the Oliy Majlis delegation of Uzbekistan to Canada on November 26–27, 2025, as well as the successful celebration of Uzbekistan Day at the Parliament of Canada.
The meeting discussed holding the first Uzbekistan–Canada Interparliamentary Forum in the city of Samarkand in 2026. It also reviewed plans to organize a joint Uzbekistan–Canada business forum during the visit of the Canadian delegation to Uzbekistan, focusing on trade and investment cooperation, including critical minerals, agriculture, clean energy, education, and innovation.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides emphasized their readiness to further deepen cooperation to develop interparliamentary dialogue between Uzbekistan and Canada.
