Uzbekistan demands protection of its citizens’ rights during migration raids in Russia
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Olimjon Abdullaev met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Uzbekistan Alexey Yerkhov, the ministry’s press servicere ported.
During the meeting, the two sides held an in-depth discussion on key issues related to safeguarding the rights and human dignity of Uzbek citizens working in the Russian Federation.
The talks were attended by Uzbekistan’s consuls general operating in various regions of Russia. The Russian side was represented by senior officials from the consular section of its diplomatic mission, migration authorities, and law enforcement agencies.
The Uzbek side stressed that it is a matter of principle to prevent any form of discrimination or violation of the rights and human dignity of Uzbek citizens during migration inspections and enforcement raids. This applies both to individuals who comply with the law and to those found to have violated migration regulations, the ministry said.
The meeting also reaffirmed the parties’ commitment to maintaining a pragmatic and mutually respectful dialogue aimed at regulating migration processes and creating favorable conditions for the legal employment of Uzbek citizens in Russia.
In addition, both sides underscored the importance of holding regular consular consultations and bilateral meetings to further improve and strengthen practical cooperation.
