Botanical gardens to be established across Karakalpakstan and regional areas

Following the Presidential Decree of the Republic of Uzbekistan, “On Measures to Expand Green Areas and Continue Reforms in the Forest Management System within the Framework of the Nationwide ʼGreen Spaceʼ Project,” botanical or dendrological gardens will be established in the Republic of Karakalpakstan and the regions.
As stated in the decree, starting from the 2025/26 academic year, the University for the Study of Environment and Climate Change in Central Asia and its affiliated “green” technical colleges will implement a dual education system.
To support scientific and practical training, botanical or dendrological gardens will be created in Karakalpakstan and the regions.
Additionally, short-term training courses will be introduced in seed production, seedling cultivation, and climate change adaptation.
The decree also establishes an Agency for Combating Desertification and Expanding Forest and Green Areas. The volume of seedlings provided by state forestry enterprises will be doubled.
A new system will be introduced to record the planting of tree and shrub seedlings as compensation by individuals who have illegally cut down or destroyed valuable species not included in the forest fund.
