Procedure established for reviewing UN requests on interim measures
Amendments have been introduced to Presidential Decree No. DP–6012 “On Approval of theNational Strategy of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Human Rights” under Presidential Decree No. DP–27 dated February 17, 2026. The update was reported by the “Huquqiy Axborot” Telegram channel.
According to the amendments to Annex 3 of the decree, a procedure has been established for reviewing requests on interim measures submitted by the United Nations.
Under the new rules, once a request for interim measures from UN treaty bodies is received through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it must be forwarded within one day to the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Justice.
Within one day, the Center sends inquiries to the relevant state authorities, requesting urgent measures to implement the interim measures and, if necessary, the submission of substantiated explanations. The state authorities are required to provide the Center, within three days, with information on measures taken or planned, along with the relevant explanations.
Based on the information collected and in coordination with a working group, the Center formulates the government’s official position within three days and submits it to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Ministry then forwards the official position to the UN treaty bodies within two days.
