Kazakhstan–Uzbekistan border checkpoint to remain closed until year-end

The restriction on crossing the border through the “Tazhen” (Kazakhstan) – “Davut-Ata” (Uzbekistan) checkpoint has been extended until 31 December 2025, the press service of the Customs Committee of Uzbekistan reported.
According to Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Finance State Revenue Committee, the restrictions introduced on 1 February 2025 for individuals, passenger cars, buses, and freight vehicles with a maximum permitted weight of up to 3.5 tons through the“Tazhen” checkpoint (adjacent to Uzbekistan’s “Davut-Ata” border customs post) have been prolonged until the end of 2025.
The extension is linked to the second phase of construction at the checkpoint, which includes major repairs of administrative buildings and concreting of road surfaces. Kazakhstan extended the restriction to ensure the safety of travelers and vehicles and to accelerate construction and reconstruction works.
Freight vehicles exceeding 3.5 tons are permitted to cross through the “Tazhen”–“Davut-Ata” checkpoint. In addition, extra passenger trains have been launched on the Nukus–Beyneu route via the “Karakalpakstan” railway crossing to serve travelers.
Initially, a three-month restriction was introduced on 1 February 2025 due to construction. However, as the works required more time for completion, the restriction was first extended until 1 September 2025 and has now been prolonged again until year-end.
