More than 300 scientists are currently working at six research institutes in Uzbekistan’s pharmaceutical sector. At the same time, nearly 1,000 students graduate from pharmaceutical universities each year.

Duringa video conference meeting chaired by the Head of State, it was noted that science and industry in the pharmaceutical sector have become disconnected.

To address this issue, the National Biopharmaceutical Research Institute will be established on the basis of the Chemical-Pharmaceutical Institute, the Vaccines and Serums Institute, and the Institute of Oriental Medicine.

The new institute will be located at Tashkent Pharma Park, where conditions will be created for scientists to conduct research in cooperation with enterprises operating there.

As part of the project, a preclinical research laboratory (vivarium) and bio and chemical laboratories for testing and research will be set up in the park. In addition, an international clinical research center with a capacity of 250 places will be built.

It was also noted during the meeting that professors and lecturers from the Tashkent Pharmaceutical Institute and the Pharmaceutical Technical University will carry out their research activities within the Pharma Park.

University students will study and work at the park’s enterprises under a dual education system.

Enterprises that begin developing new medicines by engaging scientists in the field will have expenses of up to 100,000 USD compensated by the Pharmaceutical Fund.

In addition, companies that launch production of new pharmaceutical products created by local scientists will receive subsidies of up to 100 million UZS to cover the costs of product registration and clinical trials.

During the meeting, proposals and initiatives from representatives of pharmaceutical enterprises were heard, and responsible officials presented their reports.
