Uzbekistanʼs veterinary achievements recognized on global stage

Uzbekistanʼs progress in veterinary medicine has received high praise at the 92nd General Session of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), held in Paris. The countryʼs extensive experience and well-developed system of veterinary practices were showcased as a promising model for the international community.
The head of the international organization, Emmanuelle Soubeyran, highly praised the attention being given to the development of the veterinary sector under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. She emphasized that the sector has not only ensured epizootic and epidemic stability but has also transformed into an economically attractive field that consistently serves the needs of the population.
Indeed, in recent years, veterinary medicine in Uzbekistan has come to be seen not just as a subsidiary part of the agricultural system, but as one of the key drivers of the national economy. As a result, advanced practices have been developed to curb zoonotic diseases, mitigate the risks of infections transmitted by migratory wild birds, and ensure the safe, hygienic delivery of livestock products to consumers.
Notable progress has also been made in veterinary education. International standards are being systematically integrated into the national curriculum, ensuring a strong alignment between theoretical knowledge and practical training. As a result, Uzbekistan has rapidly become one of the leading countries in the veterinary field within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
In recognition of these achievements, WOAH Director General Soubeyran awarded the “Medal of Merit” to Bahrom Norqobilov, Chairman of Uzbekistanʼs Committee for Veterinary and Livestock Development.
It is noteworthy that Uzbekistan is the first CIS country to receive such prestigious recognition. Undoubtedly, the recognition reflects the countryʼs growing influence and rising reputation in the global veterinary community.
