Uzbekistan introduces new list: Who qualifies as ʼUndesirable Individualsʼ?

Amendments and additions have been made to the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On the Legal Status of Foreign Citizens and Stateless Persons in the Republic of Uzbekistan.“ These changes were introduced through Law № — 998, signed by the President.
The law introduces amendments and additions that entitle foreign citizens and stateless persons who have committed public statements or actions defaming the honor, dignity, and history of the Uzbek people to be included in the “List of foreign citizens and stateless persons deemed undesirable in the Republic of Uzbekistan.“
It has been clarified that the inclusion of a foreign citizen or stateless person in the List will be carried out based on the submission of the Legislative Chamber Council or the Senate Council of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan or by specially authorized state bodies.
Foreign citizens or stateless persons included in the list are prohibited from entering the territory of Uzbekistan. Furthermore, those on the list are required to voluntarily leave the Republic of Uzbekistan within ten days from the date of notification.
“If an individual — deemed undesirable and included on the list — fails to leave the Republic of Uzbekistan voluntarily within the specified period, they will be deported,“ the report states.
