New Stage in the History of Turkic Peoples: Unified Alphabet Approved

The third session of the General Turkic Alphabet Commission, organized by the Regional Turkic Academy and the Turkish Linguistics Society, successfully concluded in Baku from September 9-11. Sherzodkhon Qudrathoja reports about.
“The main purpose of this important meeting, held with the participation of the commission members established by the Organization of Turkic States, was to exchange knowledge and experience in this field and finalize the project of a common alphabet for Turkic languages based on the commissionʼs expertise.
The Latin-based General Turkic Alphabet project, consisting of 34 letters and first proposed by scholars in 1991, was comprehensively reviewed during the meeting. The commission members held extensive discussions and identified the aspects of the project that needed particular attention”, Qudrathoja stated.
Following the discussions, the commission reached a consensus on adopting a 34-letter unified Turkic alphabet. Special attention was given to ensuring each letter accurately represents the distinct phonemes found in the Turkic languages.
