Meta considers opening a representative office in Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan may soon host a representative office for Meta, the parent company of social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Threads. This was announced by the National Agency for Prospective Projects (NAPP)following a recent meeting.
NAPP officials met with Meta representatives to discuss the potential for opening an office in Uzbekistan. The discussions covered prospects for opening the office, developing cooperation to promote advertising and prevent fraud on Meta’s platforms, as well as content monetization and support for digital content creators in the country.
The Meta delegation included Sarim Aziz, Director of Public Policy for South and Central Asia; Senura Abeywardena, Head of Public Policy for Central Asia, Mongolia, SriLanka, and the Maldives; Aurora Li, Head of Government and Social Impact for Central Asia, Hong Kong, and Taiwan; and Yerasyl Kalikhan, Associate Regional Public Policy Manager for Central Asia and Mongolia.
The parties emphasized the importance of establishing direct dialogue and exchanging expertise on regulating digital platforms, protecting users, and developing afair monetization system. Particular attention was given to issues of digital security, advertising transparency, and promoting responsible digital behavior.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to continue cooperation and to explore concrete areas of partnership.
