426 Convicts Granted Clemency on the Eve of Ramadan Eid
On the eve of the holy celebration of Ramadan Eid, symbolizing the noble qualities of kindness, generosity, humanism, and mercy among our people, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree “On pardoning a group of persons serving a sentence, who have sincerely repented of what they have done and have firmly taken the path of correction”.
Following Article 109, paragraph 23 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the decree pardons 426 persons serving sentences for crimes who have repented sincerely and are firmly on the path of correction.
Among those granted clemency, 135 were fully released from serving their main sentences, 200 people were released on parole, and the sentences imposed on 26 persons were commuted to milder sentences. Additionally, the terms of imprisonment for 65 people were reduced.
The pardoned individuals include 11 citizens of foreign countries, 50 women, 13 men over 60 years of age, 157 individuals under 30 years (including three minors), and five individuals associated with banned organizations.
As part of the decree's implementation, relevant authorities and departments were given instructions to facilitate the return of the pardoned individuals to their families and relatives, provide assistance in their social adaptation, engage them in useful work, encourage a healthy lifestyle, and help them integrate into society.
