President of Uzbekistan and the Emir of Qatar agree to bring bilateral relations to the level of strategic partnership
The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with the Emir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
At the onset, the Head of Uzbekistan sincerely congratulated the Emir and the people of Qatar on their national holiday - Independence Day.
The Emir of Qatar, in turn, thanked the Leader of our country for organizing the International Anti-Corruption Award Ceremony at a high level in Tashkent and also expressed his gratitude for the warm hospitality.
The parties discussed issues of further strengthening political dialogue between the two countries and expanding trade-economic, investment, and cultural-humanitarian cooperation.
The ongoing intensive contacts and exchanges at all levels were noted with satisfaction. The Qatari Embassy opened in Tashkent in May and on the eve of Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s visit to Qatar, the Embassy of Uzbekistan also opened in Doha. The trade turnover is growing, and the implementation of significant projects has begun with the participation of leading Qatar companies.
Special attention was paid to the promotion of new joint investment projects, particularly in the fields of green energy, industry, agriculture, infrastructure development, banking and finance, education, healthcare, and tourism.
Ways to further expand cooperation in the field of transport and logistics were discussed. In particular, the Qatari side expressed full support for the Trans-Afghan railway project.
The parties stressed the importance of organizing a Joint Intergovernmental Commission and Business Council and holding their first meetings, as well as a business forum of the two countries in 2024 in Doha.
The sides also reached an agreement to hold cultural and humanitarian events next year.
To ensure the timely implementation of the agreements, the Leaders of Uzbekistan and Qatar called for the creation of a Coordination Council at the level of foreign ministry heads of the two countries.
The initiative of the President of Uzbekistan to create a Regional Anti-Corruption Center in Uzbekistan under the auspices of the UN was supported.
Views were also exchanged on current issues on the international and regional agenda.
