Abdusattorov finishes third at FIDE Freestyle World Championship 2026
The final matches of the FIDE Freestyle World Championship 2026 took place on February 15.
Uzbek grandmaster Nodirbek Abdusattorov faced Germany’s Vincent Keymer in the third-place playoff. Abdusattorov prevailed with a 2.5–1.5 victory, earning the bronze medal and a $40,000 prize.
Importantly, by securing third place, Abdusattorov also qualified for the 2027 Freestyle World Championship. In the match for seventh place, another Uzbek player, Javokhir Sindarov, competed against Levon Aronian, who represents the United States. Sindarov was defeated in the Armageddon tiebreak and finished the tournament in eighth place, receiving a $10,000 prize.
First place at the FIDE Freestyle World Championship 2026 went to Norway’s Magnus Carlsen, while second place was claimed by another U.S. representative, Fabiano Caruana.
